| it's hard to believe that in two days, i'll be saying goodbye to atlanta. cue the sandlot: FOR E VER. actually, not forever. but probably three years. the plan is to do my prerequisites during the fall 2007 and spring 2008 semesters, nursing school fall 2008 through spring 2010, and then move back to the peach state to work at children's healthcare of atlanta. if they'll have me. but i'm getting way ahead of myself. in two days, amy and i will be living with faye in sylva in a little house with no internet (until around 20 july) and no job. unless you count burger king. yes, it turns out that the bk lounge will be my new house of employment, at least until i find something better. i'm trying to get a pharmacy technician position, and if that doesn't work out, a customer service/technical support position. and if that falls through, an on-campus administration job. please, PLEASE, anything but going back to the food industry!!! or the retail industry. or banking. in the midst of the job woes, amy is rapidly approaching her due date of 20 august. she's 32.5 weeks today, meaning there's roughly 52 days, give or take, until we have our first child. mindblowing. maris clare is moving around more and more, and we had our last doctor appointment in georgia last tuesday. our first appointment in north carolina will be two weeks from today, 12 july. i have no idea at all why i'm writing all of this. no one actually reads anything i write anymore. then again, i don't read anything anyone else writes either, so i can't really complain. i guess i'm just trying to say a final goodbye to the atl, since we take our cable modem back to comcast tomorrow, and won't get dsl for another three weeks. apparently they have to actually run a line to the middle of nowhere, aka our house. nevertheless, i have mostly joyful feelings about moving back to north carolina. it symbolises the end of amy's and my first chapter of marriage (where it was just the two of us with crappy jobs and fun with friends) and the beginning of the next (where we'll have a third member of the family, i'll be going to school for a non-crappy job, and we'll substitute a new baby for friends). also, we'll be going to 15-degree cooler temperatures, no traffic, clean air, and a lot more confederate flags. as i said, mostly joyful feelings. in conclusion, goodbye old apartment, old jobs, old life. hello, future. | | |
| 12 days until my last day at work and 20 days until we move. the days cannot move fast enough. for one, it's 91 degrees right now, both inside our apartment and out. yeah, our air conditioner doesn't work. it never really has. the last maintenance man's solution was just to run it 24 hours a day. tried that. not so much success. now that we have a new maintenance man, we're trying to get it fixed again. i put the work order in today...maybe we'll see him before we move out, maybe not. who knows? and the pool here still hasn't opened because it took them forever to get it inspected, and then there wasn't enough chlorine in the water, so amy can't even use that to cool off during the day. for the last couple of days, we've been going to the library during the hottest part of the day. amy reads her science fiction, and i work on the biology colouring book that emily rose gave me. yes, they make a biology colouring book! i had never heard of it until i received it as a present, but it's actually very informative. you learn as you colour, and associate different colours with different processes, which helps you retain the information. very helpful as i prepare for my upcoming semester of science. speaking of which, the classes i'll be taking starting in august are anatomy/physiology, intro chem, and etiology of infectious diseases. oh, and trumpet ensemble. i guess i should probably clean my trumpet and play on it a little bit before august comes around. the last time that mouthpiece touched my lips was probably around march 2006. in addition to me, two other associates are leaving ironstone bank in the next few days. one leaves this friday, 15 june, and the other the following wednesday, 20 june. with me leaving on the 22nd, that leaves two people at the bank. needless to say, they've been scurrying to have some interviews completed before we all disappear. my dad is coming down tomorrow, and we're hoping to take him out to eat as an early father's day present, since he'll be out of town next weekend. amy's sister rose graduates from high school on friday night, so we're still trying to figure out a way for her to get down there to see it, since i don't get off of work until 6, which puts us in franklin around 9...well after the ceremony is over. we'll spend father's day with her family, and then come back for my final week of work. the next week, my family is coming down to go to a braves game and help us pack and clean. then everyone comes on the 30th, we hand in our keys, and we're out of here!! i'm excited about that part. i'm not so excited about all the address changes we're going to have to do. well, looks like it's time to clean up this place in preparation for dad's visit tomorrow. if anyone has any cooling suggestions, please let us know. one caveat: the suggestions can't include, or have any reference to, a frozen turkey. | | |
| today marks 31 days until we move back to north carolina. i gave my four week notice to ironstone bank last friday, which has probably been my favourite day at work so far. thus, 22 june will be my last day there, leaving the last week of june free for packing and then moving on the 30th. that's all the news on the work front. i still don't have a job in nc yet; i've gotten a no from two places so far. i also hope it's not as hot in sylva...it's sweltering in atlanta right now. | | |
| ď…ˇntil we move to north carolina, and believe me, not a moment too soon. i'm so frustrated with my job right now. i probably shouldn't complain too much, since i'm definitely getting paid several thousand dollars more a year than i was at ten thousand villages. but on a good day, banking is boring. on a bad day, i just want to scream. like today. and yet, i just applied to transfer to the first citizens bank in franklin. i guess pretty good money + being bored and annoyed every day > getting to stay home + being broke. that's my job math for the day. in other news, there isn't really any other news. amy begins her third trimester on 15 may, which is our next doctor appointment. we (i.e. she) keeps packing up the apartment, bit by bit, and then we take a few boxes to our new house. like this weekend, when we'll be driving back to franklin to celebrate mother's day. we'll bring laundry, too. w00t. speaking of driving, i sold my celica! i guess i do have news. yep, my little black sports coupe is finally in the hands of someone else. we are now borrowing and will in the future go through the process of buying the 1998 toyota camry that amy's parents own. we needed a bigger family car that will fit a carseat, itd. even as i write this, i am wishing for it to be august, when we'll have a new baby and i'll be back in school. until then, all i can do is count the days. | | |
| ...until we move back to north carolina! yep, our lease expires on 30 june and we've found a three-bedroom house in sylva (about 20 minutes from my parents' house and 30 minutes from amy's family). click the link for photos (the kitchen is purple!): http://www.silvermountainproperties.com/farmhouse_photos.html my first day of classes at western is 20 august, which just happens to be amy's due date. oops. speaking of babies, ours is going to be a girl. her first name is maris...middle name is undecided as yet. amy and i will both be looking for part-time jobs in wnc, so if anyone has any connections, let us know. we'll do pretty much anything. and speaking of money, i just got great news from ten thousand villages (my former employer through which amy and i have health insurance) about the cost of the pregnancy, so i'm ecstatic and relieved. :o) that's pretty much all that has happened since the last time i wrote. let me know if you want ultrasound pictures. | | |
